‘Roseanne’ Returning To ABC
ABC announced today that will classic sitcom starring Roseanne Barr and John Goodman will return next spring with eight new episodes. Amazingly enough, Lecy Goranson will return to reprise the role of Becky #1, while Becky #2 actress Sarah Chalke will also return, but in a different role. To be honest, we’re so excited that it’s coming back we’re open to forgiving some potentially questionable plot lines.
The original Roseanne, one of Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time, followed the working class Conner family, who used deadpan humor to counter the struggles of everyday life.
Roseanne Barr will executive produce, along with Sara Gilbert, Tom Werner, Bruce Helford, Whitney Cummings and Tony Hernandez. Its final episode drew almost 17 million viewers when it aired in 1997.
Interest in a Roseanne reunion series was first reported a few weeks ago, and it’s now said that ABC beat out Netflix to acquire rights to the new show.
The Conner family all piled onto the sitcom’s famous couch, where Barr dished on bringing the sitcom back 20 years later. Sadly, we know that we won’t get to see Glenn Quinn, who played Becky’s (or Darlene’s, depending on that season 9 question) husband Mark on the show as he passed away in 2002. The series also starred Laurie Metcalf-who won multiple Emmys for her portrayal of Roseanne’s sister, Jackie-as well as “Big Bang Theory” star Johnny Galecki and Estelle Parsons.
“Roseanne” is returning to ABC. Chalke will reportedly appear in another role in the upcoming reboot. There’s no word on how the new show might deal with that history.
