Conte says John Terry ‘deserves the best’ for Stamford Bridge farewell

Antonio Conte has refused to confirm whether or not John Terry will start his final Premier League game for the club at home to Sunderland on Sunday.

The 36-year-old is set to leave Chelsea during the summer and his chances of starting the match could depend on whether David Luiz recovers from a niggling knee injury.

Despite being less influential on the field, Conte says Terry has been integral off it.

Moyes said: “Maybe seeing what it’s like to be winners, maybe seeing what it’s like to be champions can influence some of the players”. “We are very happy Claude is gong to be staying on”. His thought was always first for the team and afterwards for him.

“Then we have the FA Cup (final) against Arsenal”.

“For this reason I have to celebrate in the right way”.

They will finish bottom of the Premier League for the third time, a competition joint-record with Nottingham Forest.

“He deserves the Manager of the Year title for reinvigorating the club, bringing the best out of players who had sagged under Jose Mourinho, reinvented others and buying successfully”.

‘I will have a conversation with him. At the end of the season, I’ll go on holiday to stay with my family. The same as [Juventus great Alessandro] Del Piero, Maldini at Milan.

But Conte believes he can play on, with Bournemouth and West Ham reported to be interested in his services.

Conte added: “He’s still strong”.

He said: “I’m made up to be named the Premier League Kicks Hero for Chelsea“.

“But they won the Champions League one year and then went out in the first round the next season”.

“John has all the possibilities to continue his career”, Conte said. “John has all these characteristics”. Terry is a divisive figure, but his contribution to the Blues’ success on the pitch is beyond doubt.

But the former England captain was at fault for the equalizer when barely two minutes later he back-headed a ball he should have cleared, sending it straight to Etienne Capoue for an easy headed goal.

Conte’s side will come up against relegated Sunderland in pursuit of a 30th Premier League win in an outstanding 2016-17 campaign. Cesar Azpilicueta can emulate them.

Like their rivals, Chelsea are expected to spend this summer.

But Conte was reluctant to address further matters about next term, such as who Terry’s replacement will be as captain.

“Gary is our vice-captain this season”. We were all very united and we all wanted to have a great season after the 10 place.

However, Fantasy Football managers have one last game week to see if they can earn themselves enough points to declare themselves the champions of the Galway Advertiser Tribal Leader League in association with St Anthony’s and Claddagh Credit Union and the prize of €250.
