Geelani Under NIA Scanner for Allegedly Receiving Lashkar Funds
To a question he said International Court of Justice has no jurisdiction to hear case of Indian RAW agent as it pertains to the security of Pakistan.
The Enforcement Directorate, which investigates economic offenses, said it would join the NIA investigation into funding from Pakistan through hawala channels – a cross-border illegal cash transfer system run by money brokers.
The PE also names Hurriyat provincial president Naeem Khan, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Gazi Javed Baba and Farooq Ahmed Dar alias Bitta Karate of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), NIA officials said.
An ED official told IANS that it would probe all the financial transactions of the Hurriyat leaders.
The move comes after an expose by a national news channel, India Today, purportedly showing Pakistan pumping money to stoke trouble in the valley in connivance with Hurriyat leaders.
The Foreign Office Spokesman said that in line with its policy of extending moral, diplomatic and political support to Kashmiris, Pakistan has sent a letter from the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz to the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres to apprise the latter on India plans of changing the demography in the Indian Occupied Kashmir and to seek the UN intervention.
One of the more recent of these confessions was from moderate Hurriyat leader Geelani’s colleague Naeem Khan, who reportedly said on camera that not only does the Hurriyat raise money domestically at times, but it could repeat the J&K unrest of 2016 – the aftermath of the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen leader Burhan Wani – if they could gather enough money.
Meanwhile, J&K authorities on Friday placed moderate Hurriyat group chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest, just before separatist-called protests were to take place in Srinagar.
According to sources, a team of NIA led by a senior member has reached the Valley for the inquiry into Hurriyat funding. The team will probe into the nuances of the funding, which are mostly being made for subversive activities including stone pelting and damage of public properties there.
