‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Creator Shonda Rhimes Speaks Out on Jerrika Hinton’s Departure
The upcoming spinoff’s order will ensure that a series will immediately be created and will be set on from an episode of the original. ABC announced that next season of the political drama will be its last. Speaking at the recently-concluded Upfronts presentation, Dungey opened up about series creator Shonda Rhimes being highly capable of pushing the new series forward.
The season 13 finale for Grey’s Anatomy just aired and one of the cast’s series regular said goodbye to the show during the episode. It left audiences wondering whether Dr. Stephanie Edwards (Jerrika Hinton) survived after attempting to stop the blast but being thrown out herself. During the finale, Stephanie survived last week’s explosion but chose to quit her job at Grey Sloan in an effort to live her life to the fullest.
Thus, Stephanie walked away with the rarest of “Grey’s Anatomy” endings: something not completely horrific or tragic or heartbreaking. “While I’m sad to see Stephanie leave Grey Sloan Hospital, I am excited to see what’s next for Jerrika“, her statement continued. “I need to travel, explore, hike, breathe…away from monitors and blood – and instead of saving other people’s lives I want my own”. “It’s time I live my own”, she said before telling Richard she quit. Though Stephanie was never front and center on Grey’s, her presence will surely be missed. – April Kepner (Sarah Drew) gave Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) permission to confess she has feelings for April’s ex Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams). Megan’s ex, Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson), meanwhile, found out from Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) that she was alive, excitedly driving to the medical center to see for himself.
“No, he doesn’t. Why would you even…?” a stunned April responded. You have. You taught me how to take my past and find my path. Thank you, thank you. Still, with Grey’s bopping up 6% over last week but down 17% from its Season 12 ender, ABC did win Thursday with a 1.5/6 rating and 6.10 million viewers – a rise of 15% in the demo and 22% in total audience from last Thursday.
