“I am a guy that lives in the moment”.
Joining Harden and James on the first team were Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook, San Antonio’s Kawhi Leonard and New Orleans’ Anthony Davis. “We were poor. You’ve got to be able to pick up the slack, certainly, when other guys aren’t available”. “Ultimately, they were terrific”. I believe we have another level as well. We can continue to get better. There’s no complacency for us now.
The Celtics team had its heart ripped out for the second game in a row at the Boston Garden.
With both teams going to their benches in the fourth, the only suspense was whether the Celtics could avoid the worst playoff loss in franchise history. James said. “At the end of the day, my only job is try to be the MVP for this team every night”.
“What can I do about it?”
“I know what I bring to the table”. We played all the way through for 48 minutes, ‘ Cleveland coach Tyronn Lue said.
“Any given night, it could be Kyrie, could be LeBron, could be Kevin, Korver, J.R. (Smith), Tristan (Thompson)”, Lue said. “I think every year he’s the MVP and you could give him the award every year if you wanted to”.
LeBron James scored 22 of his 30 points in the first half. Does LeBron James need to drop another 20-point half or chase down another block to sway the one or two souls on the planet who are unconvinced?
The win was the Cavs’ 12th straight in the playoffs, dating back to the last three games of the finals past year. The streak equals an National Basketball Association record.
Rookie Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 19 points and Avery Bradley had 13.
“It is embarrassing”, he said.
Boston showed flashes early on that maybe just maybe, we might actually have a decent game. “Not much can happen now”. On the lone one-on-one possession in which Thomas was guarded by James – in the second quarter – the Boston guard was called for a travelling violation after James cut off his driving lane, contested his awkward layup attempt and forced Thomas to catch his own shot, resulting in a turnover.
“We got the shots we wanted on the offensive end nearly all of the first half”, Thomas said, noting the Cavs were rested while his team had just come off a seven-game series with the Washington Wizards. He assisted on six of his team’s 11 baskets in the half.
