Liverpool: Roberto Firmino could be fit to face Middlesbrough

The Brazilian forward was expected to return for Liverpool’s crucial final Premier League game of the season against Middlesbrough.

“I was happy about the last game, especially the second half because we showed we are here for working hard and trying everything, and we put in the right tools to beat them”. Given he is just 16 years old, however, Liverpool are also looking to bring in Robertson of Hull City – a deal that should be even easier to strike now that Marco Silva’s side have been relegated to the Championship.

Klopp also acknowledged that he has become accustomed to the final day of the season being of huge importance to his club, whether that be Mainz, Borussia Dortmund or Liverpool. However, a draw or a defeat could see Arsenal leapfrogging them if they win their last home game against Everton.

If Liverpool are defeated by Middlesbrough, their chances for a top-four finish would nearly certainly be killed off.

“It was wonderful for so many of our members to get the chance to interact with a real legend of the game”.

Arsenal would take over Liverpool’s fourth place spot with a win and banish Klopp to the Europa League, the competition they almost won last season.

Even if Firmino doesn’t make the cut at Anfield, with Daniel Sturridge rediscovering his goal scoring touch, Philippe Coutinho in fine form and Gigi Wijnaldum performing strongly, Liverpool should see their participation confirmed in next season’s Champions League.

Stubborn and resolute for much of the season – under former boss Aitor Karanka at least – Boro enjoyed a defensive record only bettered by the top-four sides for much of the season until caretaker Steve Agnew’s search for more goals shifted the balance.

If the Reds can jump onto the front foot from the first whistle, there is no reason they cannot win comfortably (they did it away to Middlesbrough earlier this season).

Paul Merson is tipping Chelsea to ease to a 4-0 win against Sunderland in the Premier League title celebration on Sunday night. The competition makes the club special.
