West Ham have been linked with a £20million bid for the Nigeria global but Guardiola only has eyes for Sunday’s trip to Vicarage Road, where victory will assure City of third place.

“I would not be the first to leave a club after so many years and come back in a different shirt”, he was quoted as saying by BBC on Wednesday. It is a crucial game for us, absolutely a final.

“Of course, it’s in our hands. Now we are there every year, but we have to try and be better next season”. We travel to London for that. The players used to run 6km a game, now it is 12km. Against Middlesbrough we played with two strikers.

The Angola-born star is also a target for Arsenal, Liverpool and West Brom. It was a shame that right at our best, when everything went well, when we were seventh, we had an incredible accumulation of injuries.

City began the season among the title favourites and got off to an impressive start but were unable to sustain a serious challenge.

“Normally the big teams always fight until the end and after that you can win or lose it”, said Guardiola.

Guardiola insists he knows how important his team’s last game of the season against Watford is to secure third place and automatic entry into the Champions League group stages. During the season, it was not easy, and we dropped a lot of points at home. We have to work harder to reduce the gap.

With a number of players out of contract at the end of the campaign, Guardiola is expected to revamp his squad ahead of the new season.

“Video technology and looking at instant replays of major incidents are the steps that need to be taken”, Clement said.

He said: ” It is one step at a time, but if they (the FA) are to carry it through I think it’s a good thing for the game, not just because the game should be officiated by the referees but because of the moral value to the game.

‘Are we going to review the mistakes of the referees? No.

Defender John Stones, meanwhile, could return to the City starting line-up.

The England centre-back came on as a late substitute in the midweek Premier League win over West Brom after six games out with a groin injury.

Fabian Delph, Claudio Bravo and Germany worldwide of Turkish origin Ilkay Gundogan are all out.
