National Basketball Association playoffs 2017: Internet reacts to Cavaliers’ historic beatdown of Celtics
“No. I don’t think they’re in our head”, Brown said. They failed to execute with any semblance of professionalism on offense, and when it became apparent that they weren’t going to be able to get easy buckets, then they quit. Thomas didn’t play in the second half due to what the team said was a hip injury. That guy’s a tough guy and he plays through a lot.
Thomas will be re-evaluated on Saturday.
“Not 44 points’ worth”, Stevens said.
“Our team is in a great groove, and I’m happy to be a part of that groove”, said LeBron following the lopsided victory. I think guys still believe.
By the three-minute mark of the second quarter, the Cavaliers had outscored Boston, 34-8, in the period – upping their lead to an even 40. That was followed by another on Stevens. He was Boston’s leading scorer this postseason, entering Friday night’s game averaging 29.8 points per game.
Cleveland led by a record 41 points at the half, and by 46 after three quarters.
“It was obviously just embarrassing”, said Celtics guard Avery Bradley.
“We are looking forward to IT (Isaiah Thomas) giving us his best shot and all their guys playing desperation basketball”.
“I know what I bring to the table”. It started to bother him again during Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Washington Wizards, and he required treatment to play in Boston’s next two games (Game 7 vs. Washington and Game 1 vs. Cleveland).
Game 2 was a demonstration of the Cavaliers’ complete arsenal of weapons – all clicking together as a cohesive and fine-tuned machine.
Although the Celtics made a run and cut the deficit to just one point, 11-10, with 6:35 to play, the Cavaliers had an answer in the form of a 10-0 spurt out of a timeout, and that gave them an 11-point lead with 4:22 to play in the quarter.
Kyrie Irving scored 23 points for the Cavaliers, who return home with a chance to finish off the Celtics in Cleveland. The Cavs got 90 points from their starting five.
Boston tried to fight back, scrambling to close out on defense and trying to send help to contain James on drives.
The beating Boston has taken from Cleveland is a reminder that the Celtics have to continue adding elite talent, regardless of the position.
Shooting guard J.R. Smith hustled after an offensive rebound and buried a fade-away jumper along the baseline as the first half came to a close. But the score that really stung, the score that emphasized the difference between the defending champions and everyone else in the Eastern Conference, was the one mocking the bewildered fans from the Garden scoreboard as the teams headed to the locker room in decidedly different mental states at halftime.
