South Korea: ‘High possibility’ of conflict with North Korea

Moon’s envoy to Washington, South Korean media mogul Hong Seok-hyun, said Trump spoke of being willing to use engagement to ensure peace, Hong said in comments carried by television.

But the envoy stressed that “what is important is not words, but actions”. “That is what all the current sanctions and pressure is ultimately striving for, to isolate North Korea but to engage in talks and negotiations”. Haley previously indicated that new sanctions could target oil, a critical import for North Korea mainly from China, and she said Tuesday the US also wants sanctions on organizations and businesses in countries that are helping Pyongyang.

In a statement on Monday, the 15-member council demanded that Pyongyang conduct no further ballistic missile tests.

Its latest ballistic missile firing was also the first one to be detected by the THAAD, the advanced U.S. missile defense system, which is already operational in South Korea, and can intercept ballistic missiles launched by the regime of Kim Jong-un.

In its previous missile launch at the end of April, North Korea’s regime suffered a second failure in a row with its latest ballistic missile test attempt amid continuing tensions with the US and South Korea.

“The United States is not past looking at third-country entities who are helping North Korea and putting sanctions against them”.

However, Pyongyang said its recent missile test-launch was a legitimate act of self-defence under global law and called United States criticism a “wanton violation of the sovereignty and dignity of the DPRK“.

North Korea has maintained that the missile test was in response to the nuclear dangers and threats posed by the US and its allies.

DONALD Trump would have “maybe 10 minutes” to decide whether to launch a retaliatory strike against North Korea – should it ever fire a missile that’s capable of reaching the United States mainland, experts say.

Yesterday, the US said it could persuade China to impose new United Nations sanctions on North Korea. “Now you’re going to see the entire worldwide community isolate North Korea and let them know that this is not acceptable”, Haley continued. “We don’t have it done yet”, Haley said.

Tension has remained high on the Korean Peninsula over the past months between the United States and the DPRK over the USA threat to stage military attacks against Pyongyang in response to its nuclear and missile programs. The North ignored worldwide condemnation of its missile test, which demonstrated some disturbing advances in long-range missile technology, and insisted it would “conduct ICBM tests anytime and anywhere, in accordance with the decisions made by our central leadership”. Harris also acknowledged, the Diplomat reported, China’s role in helping to resolve the continuing tensions in the region, but noted, in his opinion, that Kim Jong-Un and North Korea had become “a liability for China, not an asset”.

North Korea submitted the patent application to a United Nations agency, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), for processing.
