Free Agent Probability Meter for Boston
Boston’s series against the Cavs had short bouts of competitiveness but ultimately the victor was at no point in doubt. One player you can count on making his Celtics debut is Croatian center Ante Zizic.
Big swings: One of the determining factors for Boston’s approach has to be what options are on the table. They had Amir Johnson who wasn’t bad but wasn’t great or Al Horford who is undersized for that position. Jae Crowder is the type of versatile wing every team needs and is on a super cheap contract until 2020. As such, he can play it by ear depending on what players commit and how big an offer sheet Olynyk can inspire. If we’d lost Game 7 against the Wizards, I don’t feel any different than if we’re where we are today. Maybe more change; maybe not. After that, there are two second-rounders whom Boston might also consider.
Just ask president of basketball operations Danny Ainge. Unfortunately, they were no match for LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“I don’t know what “level” that means”, he said. “We still have to keep growing as a group and getting better“. That’s multiple blue chip prospects on an already over 50-win team. They are an incredibly desirable destination for elite free agents, with the 27-year old Hayward serving as the most logical target. That’s the power of a few good trades, and a beyond excellent one, has given this team. And finally there’s building through free agency. You can make a strong case for keeping any of these pieces (Thomas is an All-Star, Bradley has terrific two-way value, Smart is only 23) but with likely No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz potentially entering the picture this summer, the logjam will need to be addressed. Bradley is in a similar situation age- and contract-wise, though in a lower category. They are still aiming to improve and one way to do this is to acquire star players, something their rivals the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to accomplish this offseason. There’s really no way to avoid that, and Boston will have to make tough decisions with both when that time comes based on how next season plays out.

How impressive Jaylen Brown has been can’t be understated. There’s plenty of chatter out there regarding the team’s direction during the draft. However, there are many instances where rumors are an indicator of things to come.
If the trade were to go down, the Sixers could select Lonzo Ball or Markelle Fultz with the No. 1 overall pick (via Celtics) while sending either Jahlil Okafor or Dario Saric and the No. 3 pick to Boston.
Boston has a ton of ways to play its cards, and can choose to be proactive or reactive. The only mistake they can make is buying into the noise from the outside to make win-now moves that don’t pan out and hurt the future.
