IOS 11 Will let You Text Siri Instead Of Speaking To It
It’s at the very expensive end of wireless speakers, and at the weaker end of the spectrum when it comes to smart home devices.
Just like Amazon Echo and Google Home, the Apple HomePod is an always-listening smart speaker that will stream music, answer your questions and will control your smart home. In fact, the Echo is already spawning insane siblings, such as the Echo Look and Echo Show, to take over every room in our houses. And the result is quite evident; a comparison of the audio qualities of HomePod and Amazon Echo will definitely bring out some clear differences, with the former topping the chart in most of the charts.
Buried at the bottom of the HomePod’s spec sheet is the Trojan Horse into your living room: Siri integration, which can do everything from set timers to help run your smart home gear. Would you do us a favor?
Apple is known for its design ethos, which aims for minimalist perfection in every product.
It’s a different situation with the HomePod. Analysts are yet to be convinced that HomePod will rock the smart speaker market the way iPhones came to rule the smartphone world and iPods dominated MP3 players. That top edge is touch controlled so you can tap to play, pause or adjust volume. Instead, the speaker looks a lot like the company’s unloved Mac Pro and that’s just fine in our book.
When they introduced the HomePod, Apple executives did’s spend time on showcasing all the smartness of the HomePod. In addition, there is also an in-built subwoofer to level the audio frequencies. Plus there are separate mute and listen buttons. For anyone looking to make their home a little smarter, that choice is a no-brainer.
Apple said it is also using “on-device learning” to enable Siri to take people’s tastes into account. Will you be purchasing a HomePod? The Home also features a mute button, so you can deactivate voice control when desired – something you can also do with the Echo.
Data for the Google Home is encrypted in transit and at rest, which means that it’s protected as it heads to Google’s servers and encoded again where it’s stored. HomePod, like Echo, is mains only. Sound output isn’t that impressive either compared to the Echo but can still be enough to fill your room.
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) unveiled its long-rumored entry into the smart assistant speaker market on Monday. Apple’s smart speaker also features a six-microphone array, so it should pick up your voice anywhere in the room.
On the other hand Amazon Echo and Google Home supports nearly all smart home integrations. Especially if a gadget is connected with the identity of Apple, it automatically becomes attractive.
Siri can recognize the song genre a user prefers and can recommend similar tracks to the HomePod user in the future.
As such, each of the speakers is created to respond to some of your most basic queries.
HomePod is a newly released product by Apple in WWDC 2017 – a serious intelligent wireless speaker with a Hey Siri home assistant feature.
The HomePod’s sound was bigger and bolder than the Play:3, one of the current market leaders when it comes to home speaker systems. But then you don’t get AirPlay 2 support, so it isn’t likely to be as seamless an experience.
Convinced you really want, or even need, a Google Home? Again, this is a cheaper option than Apple’s solution.
Apple is trying to tap into its heritage as the iPod company to make a product that’s music first, assistant second, despite the name giving the two equal billing. Will Spotify or your stored music or radio work? The Echo Dot is the cheapest version of the Alexa-powered device and retails at just $50. Meanwhile the Google Home is £129 here in the UK.
You can already control smart home accessories with your iOS devices, of course.
