Trump proclaims executive order to assist apprenticeships
Participating business leaders are from Rockwell Manufacturing, Oshkosh Corporation, Briggs & Stratton, Mercury Marine and Quad Graphics.
The Trump administration feels industry and other entities outside of the government can create and run the programs needed to fill open positions and do it more quickly, cheaply and well, an assertion with which the NRA agrees. But the administration is reluctant to devote more taxpayer money to the effort.
In addition, the executive order directs the Secretary of Labor, in conjunction with the secretaries of Commerce and Education, to establish an Excellence in Apprenticeship Program within two years of the date of the order. “This is the highest number of job vacancies ever”.
Eric Haban of LDI Industries in Manitowoc started as a youth apprentice and said it “gave me a jump start to get into a field that I had no prior experience in”.
Trump had campaigned on creating jobs. We’re going to hear some very big names that I can’t tell you about now.
“We’re here today to celebrate the dignity of work”, Trump said before signing the order.
Does anyone think apprenticeships are a bad idea?
The apprenticeship system, which has been in place since the 1930s, was reinvigorated during former President Barack Obama’s tenure. And this year’s budget passed with about $90 million for apprenticeships.
Expanding the use of federal student aid beyond that legal definition “would be a major shift in how the program operates, and would need Congressional action”, McCarthy wrote in an email.
Illinois Democratic Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, who, introduced the revised version of the Perkins Act along with Pennsylvania Republican Rep. The president is expected to tour Waukesha County Technical College as well as lead a workforce development round table discussion while in town.
Trump’s proposed federal budget would cut job training programs by 40% and reduce other types of workforce training programs, such as financial aid for college students. He says he expects the U.S. Senate to approve a “really good” solution in the near future. The Executive Order will streamline the administrative processes of the current program by shifting the certification from the Department of Labor to industry, which is well equipped to set standards since they know what their companies and workforces need. Scott would not answer explicitly when asked if he supported the executive order, saying accountability is paramount. “And that’s exactly what we’re doing”, said President Trump. “We’re working against the same resource constraints as any post-secondary institution”, explained Way.
Offering a federal tax credit for hiring new apprentices that are registered with the U.S. Department of Labor or a state apprenticeship agency.
“Obamacare is one the greatest catastrophes that our country has signed into law”. Some moderate GOP senators have raised concerns about parts of the measure OK’d by the House.
The Trump administration’s position is in some ways a continuation of the Obama administration’s effort to revive apprenticeships across industries. Both of the families saw their premiums double and are now paying as much as a quarter of their monthly income on health care insurance, according to President Trump.
Trump also spoke at a $1,000 a person fundraiser to benefit Scott Walker, believed to be running for another term. Appropriators should focus on meeting the needs of people and businesses, not just replicating what was spent the year before, he said.
