Man dies in Melbourne police pursuit
A man was found lying in the middle of the road in Northcote overnight.
Police tried to pull the unidentified driver over but instead of pulling over he allegedly speed off and turned right on to Victoria Road.
He hit a parked auto, a fence and two other parked cars before being found by officers, lying on the road.
The driver was thrown from his auto onto the road and died at the scene.
The auto, a 2010 Holden sedan, failed to stop and allegedly took off at a fast rate of speed, turning right on to Victoria Road.
Police saw the speeding auto hit a parked vehicle before they activated their lights and sirens, he said.
‘We don’t know why he didn’t want to stop, ‘ Mr Fryer said.
“He was so reckless his driving was all over the shop”.
Mr Fryer said on Monday a very experienced high patrol sergeant had taken notice of the vehicle.
“Our members made a conscious decision that the risk they saw in front of them warranted them intercepting him and they have my 100 per cent support in the decision they made on that”, Mr Fryer said.
